Entry Requirements

Candidates for admission must have satisfied general University Admission criteria of a C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E), or equivalent level of education. A minimum C+ Grade pass will be mandatory in each of the cluster subjects.

The course leading to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree shall extend for a period of not less than 176 weeks divided into 4 levels of 4 quarters each.

The cluster subjects for Bachelor of Dental Surgery in KCSE are as follows:

  • Biology

  • Biological Sciences

  • Chemistry

  • Physical Sciences

  • Physics/Mathematics

  • English/Kiswahili

  • English/Kiswahili

  • Mathematics

In addition to I above, eligibility for consideration for admission into the Module II Degree Programme (Privately Sponsored Students) in the Faculty of Dental Sciences shall be governed by the following admission requirements, outlined under each catchment category:-

Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE)

Two principal level passes and one subsidiary in Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or equivalent level of education in the following subjects:

  • Biology

  • Chemistry

  • Physics/Mathematics

  • General Paper

A minimum 'O' level division II Pass or C+ mean grade in KCSE in addition to a three year Diploma (Credit) from a recognized Medical Training Institution in the following:-

  • Dental Technology

  • Dental Surgery Assistant

  • Dental Hygiene

  • Community Oral Health

  • Clinical Medicine

  • Laboratory Technology

  • Radiography

  • Pharmaceutical Technology

  • Nursing

  • Education (Biology and Chemistry)

  • In addition, should be serving in the relevant field of their training at the time of the application.

Bachelor of Science Degree in any of the Science subjects from the University Nairobi or equivalent from Universities and Institutions recognized by Senate.

Masters in medical based sciences of the University of Nairobi or equivalent in the following:-

  • Biochemistry

  • Human Anatomy

  • Physiology

  • Microbiology

  • Public Health

PhD holders in any of the following fields:-

  • Medical Sciences

  • Biological Sciences

  • Physical Sciences

Foreign students from non-English speaking countries should show competence in English language by producing test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Certificate or equivalent.
