Dr. Fred Matiang'i, CS, Education, congratulates Prof. George Magoha on the launch of this autobiography. Looking is on Dr. Michael Magoha, Prof. Henry Mutoro, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs and Dr. Dr. Henry Chakava, Chairman, EAEP.

There was pomp and colour when the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Fred Matiang'i, officially launched Prof. George Magoha's autobiography; George Magoha: Tower of Transformational Leadership.

The new title vividly captures the life and times of the former vice-chancellor of the University of Nairobi, Prof. Magoha. In his autobiography, Prof. Magoha has shared how his formative years were, captured his family life, his pursuit for education, his thoughts on transformative leadership, his stint as UoN vice-chancellor and the lessons learnt. Through and through, Prof. Magoha celebrates and acknowledges those who played a critical role in his life. The book is published by East African Educational Publishers (EAEP).

At the launch on June 14, 2017, speaker after speaker spoke about Prof. Magoha’s leadership acumen and style.

“I have the privilege of working with Prof. Magoha as the Chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council where he is spearheading reforms,” says Dr. Matiang'i. “Prof. Magoha's outlook of life is different. He asks for output from the institutions he leads. Many people make reference to Prof. Magoha when it comes to transformational leadership. If we all serve our nation diligently, Kenya will have great achievements to boast about.”

While congratulating Prof. Magoha on the launch of his book, Prof. Peter Mbithi, Vice-Chancellor, UoN, challenged dons to continuously publish not only articles and book chapters in their area of specialization, but also to publish for a general readership.

“I salute Prof Magoha for taking up the testy subject of leadership, and of servant leadership and breaking it down so that we appreciate it. I wish that we would all begin to apply some of the principles alluded to in the book. If we do so, then we will prove our worth not only as the university community but also as Kenyans,” he said.

The book received moving endorsements from former UoN Vice-Chancellors Prof. Crispus Kiamba and Prof. Francis Gichaga, the former Dean, School of Law, Prof. Patricia Kameri-Mbote, the Director, Kenya School of Law, Prof. P.L.O. Lumumba, the Chief Executive Officer, EAEP, Mr. Kiarie Kamau, and the Chairman, EAEP, Dr. Henry Chakava.
