UoN wins two Awards at EYA 2018 Gala

The University of Nairobi received awards for first runners up in Corporate Performance and Innovation and Productivity categories. This was announced during the 2nd Employer of the Year Awards Gala on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Radisson Blue.

British American Tobacco, (BAT) emerged the overall winner of the competition, while Safaricom and Kengen took 1st and 2nd overall runners up.

While delivering her keynote speech, Cabinet Secretary, Public Service, Youth and Gender, Prof. Margaret Kobia, said that people focused organizations have a high performance culture. As situations change, employees also change, for instance, new work ethics of millennials that employers must focus on and accommodate.

“A dissatisfied staff gives unsatisfactory service. Good organizations are as a result of the people who work for them and how they are treated. ” She remarked.

The Employer of the Year Awards (EYA) is an initiative by the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) that is geared towards promoting and encouraging best Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management practices amongst organizations in Kenya.

The Employer of the Year Awards seek to recognise organizations, which put people at the core of their businesses and have implemented policies, systems and processes that create and sustain productivity along with industrial peace and harmony.

Leadership and Governance, Corporate Performance, Innovations and Productivity, Responsible Business Conduct, Inclusivity and diversity, Workplace environment, Learning and development and Effective human resources practices and industrial relations are the areas of focus.
