Introduction

The Department of Veterinary Pathology & Microbiology is one of the 4 departments of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nairobi. It is located on Upper Kabete Campus, Loresho Ridge Road off Kapenguria Road approximately 2 km from the main Nairobi-Kikuyu-Limuru Highway. It is approximately 12 -15 kilometers North West of Nairobi City center. The department comprises of 3 major sections, Pathology, Microbiology and Parasitology. The s taff is comprised of 23 academics with expertise in Parasitology, Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Immunology and Pathology and 22 Technical and Support staff. The department is involved in the teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc. and PhD) students in the following disciplines: - Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Microbiology, Immunology, Parasitology and Diagnostic Pathology. Demand-driven diagnostic and consultancy services in diseases of both domestic and wild animals including poultry and fish and humans are also offered. Staff in the department also carrying out, problem-oriented research, which is geared towards improving animal health and production, human health and poverty alleviation; respective findings being disseminated to the general public via publications, workshops, seminars, conferences, farm visits and field days.
