Welcome Address by Chairman

Welcome to the Department of Human Pathology.  Human Pathology is the foundation of medical science and practice. Without pathology, the practice of medicine would be reduced to myths and folklore. Pathology is therefore, an integral part of modern medicine.  Its is the branch of medicine dealing with the essential nature of disease, concerned with in-depth analysis of the disease itself the causes and mechanisms of disease, and the effects of the disease upon the various organs and systems of the body. Clinical medicine cannot be practiced without an understanding of pathology and likewise pathology is meaningless if it is bereft of clinical implication.  The Department of Human Pathology is managed the chair of department and administratively comprises the following four thematic units: - Unit of Anatomic Pathology, Unit of Clinical Chemistry, Unit of Haematology and Blood Transfusion and Unit of Immunology.  Functionally, each of the units operates in a manner similar to a department with a thematic unit head, academic, administrative and technical staff.  The Department offers teaching to various groups of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the medical and related fields.  The Department offers clinical services to the Kenyatta National Hospital and staff members undertake research in diverse fields of pathology and related disciplines.

Location: The Department of Human Pathology is found within the College of Health Sciences, at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Nairobi, Kenya.
