Background
The School of Economics was born in 2006 out of the former Department of Economics, one of the largest departments in the University of Nairobi. The School has the largest pool of economists in Kenya and in East Africa, with an academic staff establishment of more than fifty, with more than half of the academic staff currently holding positions in the School having doctorates in Economics.
The School offers specialized training in Economics at the bachelors, masters and doctoral levels and teaches more than 3,000 undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Arts and about 5,000 students registered in the School of Business as well as Colleges of Engineering and Architecture; Biological and Physical Sciences; and Education and External Studies. The School handles in excess of 100 postgraduate students in its Masters and Doctor of Philosophy programmes. It operates both a specialized computer laboratory and a graduate library.
