Centre For Open And Distance Learning (codl)
Distance Education
Distance Education is a term used to describe a Teaching-Learning situation where the Student/Learners and Teachers/Lecturers are separated from one another most of the time. It involves the use of various media and limited face to face.
Its Teaching-Learning strategies help overcome space and time separation between educators and learners.
In general the basic characteristics are: -
Separation of teacher and students;
It operates in an educational/institutional setting;
Uses technical communication media;
Endeavors to provide two-way communication;
More of individual learning with less group learning;
An industrialized form of education;
Involves privatization of learning;
It is cheaper for marginal increase in number and benefits from economies of scale;
