DIRECTORATE OF INDUSTRIAL TRAINING STUDENTS INFORMATION SYSTEM(DITSIS)

ABSTRACT The aim of the project was to study the current manual students system at the Directorate of Industrial Trainings whose headquarters is at commercial street, Industrial area Nairobi with a view to computerize the necessary processes in order to improve the students details capturing process, information retrieval, enable production of accurate reports on both screen and print for a better support of the decision making processes. Also targeted was improvement of accuracy of the information produced, elimination of the numerous duplication of the students' records that are stored at various departments and give a central data repository and handling control. On implementation of the system, the current labour intensive procedures of maintaining hard copy files will be significantly reduced if not eliminated The area covered by the project includes the study of the current Directorate of industrial training manual students information handling processes, problems definition, analysis, design and finally implementation of the proposed enhanced computer based Directorate of Industrial Training Students Information System [DITSIS], the system under study. This was achieved by providing a user interfaces 'Forms' and a database oriented application with Oracle database and its developer 2000 as the development tools. The Form builder is used for User interface 'Forms' design and Report builder for the reports design. Its worth noting that to a greater extend, most of the objectives of the system were achieved with Improved processing, user having direct control of the system and production of well-formatted and details reports based on user inputs.
