UoN to Partner with Makueni Government in Developing Regional Technology and Innovation Hub at Kibwezi Campus

The University of Nairobi is set to upgrade the kibwezi station to a world class institution for Agri-technology and innovation. Plans are underway to have an incubation and Agric-park, and offer degree programs in Bachelor of Science in Dryland Economics and Agro-ecosystem Management and Bachelor of Science in Water Resource Management.

 

UoN and Concordia University Enhance Partnership

The University of Nairobi and Concordia University signed an addendum to an existing MoU between UoN, University of York and Concordia University on Friday, September 23, 2016.

The addendum includes increasing capacity, innovative ways of teaching, and improving delivery of programs.

 

Samsung C & T Corporation Willing to Sponsor Varsity Teaching & Referral Hospital

Since 2014, the University of Nairobi has had plans of building a teaching and referral hospital. Following this quest the University has been looking for partners to fund this project.

Samsung C &T Corporation is one of the sought partners. Samsung is a mother company to Samsung C &T. This branch of the corporation deals with project development.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi said that currently the University uses Kenyatta National Hospital for its teaching medical school. As the Hospital is a government owned hospital, UoN does not fully get its research needs met. It is from this limitation that this project was birthed.

 

UoN To Get Accreditation From KNDI

“The University of Nairobi was first among 24 institutions to be awarded a training licence for nutritionists and dieticians. All universities should go through standard training to meet the minimum threshold for compliance.”

This was said by the CEO, Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI), Dr. David Okello when he paid a visit to the University. Dr. Okello said that as an institution of world class status, UoN needs to have maintained the standards and the regulations that were set since it received the accreditation. He urged the University to renew its accreditation.

 

UoN and Housing Finance to Collaborate

The University of Nairobi and Housing Finance Corporation have entered into discussions of possible collaborations in the areas of staff scheme loans, Project financing example hostels, commercial development, joint ventures and treasury products.

This proposal was discussed when the managing director of Housing Finance, Mr. Sam Waweru paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi on Monday, September 19, 2016 in his office.

 

UoN and Korea to Enhance Partnership

Masters in Korean studies, an establishment of korea corner and a proposal to partner in nuclear science course at the University of Nairobi are among the issues that were discussed during a courtesy call by the Korean Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. In-taek Kim to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi.

The government of Korea and the University of Nairobi have had a long relationship that has seen Korean studies in the department of Linguistics and Languages flourish. In a quest to expand the areas of the relationship and mutually benefit from it, a Masters in Korean studies has been proposed.

The government of Korea through its Embassy has pledged to help in facilitating the Korea corner that will be set up at the University of Nairobi.

UoN and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University to Collaborate

On Tuesday, September 13, 2016 a team from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), South Africa paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi in his office.

The Courtesy call was in preparation for the High Level Reference Group Meeting of the Fisheries Law Enforcement Academy (FishFORCE) Academy in Mombasa, Kenya, on November 23-24, 2016 and proposed Joint Collaboration between UoN and NMMU in addressing fisheries crime and support the Blue Economy.

 

University of Sierra-Leone to Collaborate with UoN to Enhance Capacities

The University of Sierra Leone Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ekundayo J.D. Thompson paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, University of Nairobi, Prof. Peter Mbithi, on Monday, September 12, 2016 in his office to discuss collaboration between the two institutions. 

During the courtesy call, the two Vice chancellors agreed that the two institutions will collaborate on engineering and mining.

They also discussed various issues relating to University operations like performance contracting, strategic planning, webometrics ranking, university funding and advancement office, research uptake, student mentorship, curriculum development review, automation and Internationalization of the University.
