The University QMS Certification Process

The University of Nairobi has received the ISO9001:2015 certification from KEBS, the Certification Body, marking a milestone for the Quality Management System (QMS).
 
The new standard provides many benefits to the University, including integration of risk based thinking into the processes, improved evidence for decision making, creating a quality culture, engagement of staff and students, improvement of customer satisfaction, and improvement in the credibility and image of the University.
 
But what does it take to get the certification?
 
The publication ofthe ISO9001:2015 Standard, in September 2015 necessitated areview of the University QMS. There was need to align the QMS with the new standard.
 
In order to carry out a comprehensive review, a QMS Review Committee was appointed by the University Executive Board (UEB). The Committee, chaired by the Deputy Management Representative, Christopher Moturi, comprised experienced Internal Quality Auditors.
 
The first phase required a clear understanding the ISO9001:2015 Standard,identification of the activities to be undertaken and the resources required,and the development of the methodology to be used.
 
The Committee reviewed many relevant documents. Key among these were the requirements of the ISO9001:2015 Standard, guidelines on how to transition to the Standard, University of Nairobi Charter, CUE University Regulations, CUE Standards and Guidelines, University Strategic Plan,Performance Contract and Service Delivery Charter.
 

Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Fund – Postgraduate Scholarship: 2017/2018 Academic Year

The Gandhi Smarak Nidhi fund will offer a limited number of partial scholarships tenable at the University of Nairobi, for Masters Programmes during the 2017/2018 academic year.
Interested candidates are invited to apply/re-apply for the scholarship through our online application portal (https://gandhi.uonbi.ac.ke) from Friday July 28, 2017.  A non-refundable application fees of Kenya Shillings Two thousand Only (KShs. 2,000.00) will be charged to be paid through MPESA services.
The MPESA payment details are:-

ACCOUNT NUMBER*:   This will be generated by the system for every applicant.

*Please pay only when the application system prompts you to pay.

Applicants must have attained at least an Upper Second Class Honours or its equivalent at Bachelors Level and must upload onto the application portal a letter of offer for postgraduate studies at the University of Nairobi for a Masters programme (not PhD).
Deadline for application is Friday September 1, 2017.
 
Only successful applicants will be contacted through the same portal.
 

Online room application for academic year 2017/2018 (KCSE 2016)

All Fresh students (KCSE 2016) 2017/2018 academic year reporting on the September 4, 2017

This is to inform you that the room application exercise for the 2017/2018 academic year for the above groups of students started on July 21, 2017 and closes on August 27, 2017. You are therefore advised to apply to avoid any inconveniences.  There shall be no extension after the closure on August 21, 2017.

Closure of the University of Nairobi during the general election period

This is to inform all staff that the University of Nairobi will close with effect from August 4, 2017 up to and including August 18, 2017 during the electioneering period. It should, however, be noted that:
 
i) The Vice-Chancellor's Office will remain open.
ii) Essential services that normally run during weekends and public holidays will be maintained.
iii) Mail Registry at the Main Campus will remain open from 8.30 a.m. to 12.00 noon.
iv) Out-patient treatment at the University Health Services will be available throughout the above period to cater for emergency cases.
v) Telephone services in all campuses will be operated by a few staff during the period in question.
 
The closure will allow staff to participate in the election process more conveniently and peacefully.
