Chinese to help build Centre for Seismological Training and Research

Plans are underway for the establishment of a Centre for Seismological Training and Research in East Africa, to be based at the College of Biological and Physical Sciences and supported by the Chinese Earthquake Administration.

This was revealed during a courtesy call by a delegation from the Chinese Earthquake Administration on the Vice chancellor, represented by Prof Isaac Mbeche, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs, yesterday. During the courtesy call, a memorandum of understanding was signed and equipment, books and USD  10,000 donated  to the department of geology.

Ford Foundation and UoN mark 50 years of partnership

This year, the Ford Foundation’s office for Eastern Africa celebrates 50 years of work and presence in the region.  The partnership between the Foundation and the University of Nairobi (UoN) dates back to 1962 when the first grant was given. To mark the celebrations, the Foundation will hold a public lecture at UoN in November to be delivered by its President Luis A. Ubinas.

During a courtesy call by the Ford Foundation team- Darren Walker, Vice President for Education, Creativity and Free Expression and Marta Tellado, Vice President, Global Communication, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, said that the University was pleased with the relationship it has with the Foundation and is looking forward to strengthening it.

School of Journalism enters into talks with Communication University

The University of Nairobi recognizes that an education with an international character is necessary to equip students with the knowledge and skills for their survival and growth, in a competitive labour market. The University has established various links and partnerships with other world-class universities.

To this end, the School of Journalism recently entered into deliberations with a delegation from the Communication University of China. The two institutions have a lot in common especially in the programmes offered and are looking at ways of collaborating in the fields of communication, research and staff and student exchange. The collaboration will also be keen on projects promoting women in communication.

Lanzhou University delegation visits UoN

As part of the familiarization steps towards realization of the objectives of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the University of Nairobi (UoN) and Lanzhou University (LZU), China, a delegation from LZU visited UoN.

The two universities recently signed an MOU that will see them collaborate in agriculture related projects especially in research, students and staff exchange and training.
