Seeding Labs Donation To Department Of Chemistry

Seeding Labs which is based in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States of America is a non-profit Organization that provides affordable research equipment and training assistance to scientists in developing countries since 2003. This is to help build capacity for teaching and research in the sciences.

It recently donated an assortment of glassware ( glass bottles, filter flasks, conical flasks, volumetric flasks, round bottomed flasks, separating funnels, beakers, test tubes, droppers, , pipettes) and other pieces of equipment

Donation From Seeding Labs – USA To The School Of Biological Sciences, University Of Nairobi

SBS has receive equipment worth Kshs. 3,500,000/= from Seeding Labs, a consortium of American Institutions which helps to collect laboratory equipment and supply them to the developing world.  The equipments that SBS has received will go a long way in bringing about collaboration between Kenyan’s (members of the School) and their American counterparts.

According to the MOU between Seeding Labs and School of Biological Sciences, each academic staff member is expected to examine the equipments in their area and then write a proposal in collaboration with an American Researcher.  The Seeding Labs will facilitate linkage between the two researchers.

The equipments received will boost molecular biology and technology research in our country.

1st International Scientific Conference Concludes Successfully

The College of Health Sciences successfully organized and hosted its 1st International Scientific Conference from 15th-17th June 2011 whose theme was: “Towards Optimum Health Care”.   
 
The biannual event brought together seasoned and upcoming scientists; and diverse health care practitioners from different nationalities who participated in activities such as oral and poster presentations of their original research work, plenary talks, and symposia.
 

New Appointment

Mr Narry P. Onaya-Odeck, the Registrar Administration has retired from the service of the University. The Vice Chancellor has appointed Mrs. Elizabeth G. Ongwae to act as Registrar Administration with effect from May 27, 2011. Prior to the appointment, Mrs. Ongwae was Deputy Registrar in charge of the Recruitment and Training section. The Vice chancellor has, with effect from the same date, also appointed Miss. Rosemary A. Ngesa to act as Deputy Registrar in charge of the Recruitment and Training section.

Research Consortium (AERC) Board visits UoN

The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) board paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor to brief him on the activities of the consortium and seek mutual support.  The board was led by its current Chairman, Prof. Neil Rankin from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.

The board also visited the School of Economics to review the implementation of its Ph.D. programme, which has sponsored 14 students, assess facilities and meet students and staff.  UoN is a key member of AERC according to the Board Chairman, Prof. Rankin.
